Europe's Dirty Border Secret
Melilla is a tiny piece of Europe that, unusually, sits on the African continent. What began as a look into why territories like this still exist quickly turned into something far more urgent. Today, entirely surrounded by the most fortified border in Europe, Melilla is at the heart of a political power struggle between Spain and Morocco - and desperate migrants are paying the price.
In the film, we hear from North African scholars, trace the colonial roots of Spain’s African presence, and uncover the dark political manoeuvring that treats migrant lives as disposable tools of negotiation.
